In 1794, a fort was built in the Northeastern corner of what is now the state of Indiana. Our newborn country was expanding westward and creating new borders. The fort was named after the American Revolutionary War general Anthony Wayne and marked the beginning of a thriving city. With the completion of the Wabash and Erie Canal, the city took on its nickname of “Summit City” for it was the highest elevation along the route. This brought forth economic growth and the area began to grow.
The addition of the railroad helped Fort Wayne turn into a manufacturing hub that would help build America. With an influx of immigrants to the area, the industrial era took off and became a hub of innovation. The creation of the gasoline pump and the refrigerator can all be traced back to the Fort Wayne area. To this day, manufacturing continues to be the top industry and is home to some of the most recognized brands in our nation. Fort Wayne is now home to more than 250,000 citizens and carries on its unique heritage. With 225 years worth of achievements, the city will continue to make more.
To celebrate this milestone, Wellington LTD is proud to present the Fort Wayne, Indiana 225th Anniversary rifle. This American made Henry rifle is ornately engraved with the key icons and symbols that make up the city. Utilizing 24 Karat Gold, Nickel and Black Chrome, the engravings etch the city’s history into steel. The wood engraving captures the state and city flags, the abundance of churches, the manufacturing industry and the home of the 122d Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard. The buttstock medallion captures the county Courthouse which is a National Historic Landmark. With only 25 rifles being made, each rifle will receive its very own edition number and come with a certificate of authenticity.
